DAR Beta 2.7

Post by Paul Charland »

Hi All,

The current beta is 2.7 located at:

http://www.gigasize.com/get.php?d=8hf5r202mpd

IMPORTANT:

You will need to unzip the file,

copy and paste the file in the ROUTE folder of the sim,

Open the Activities folder and double click on the three apk files to install the activities. This will install the consist, path, services, and traffic files. They are required to be there for the route to show up in the route selection window of the game.

You will also need to download the required rolling stock to get the activities to work.

If you haven't used the game in a while or are just installing it for the first time you will need to install the game from the two CDs in the box.

You will also have to download and install a few other programs/files, all are free but without them you will get errors.

1 Goto the following and scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will find three downloads. You'll need the first to get the game to work, the third for North American equipment to work. The second is optional if you think you might want to use British Rail routes and equipment.

http://tsinsider.com/Support/v1Downloads.aspx#tsupdate

2 Goto the following and get BIN, this will improve a few things in the general operation of trains and also allow you to switch cabs in some activities.

http://mstsbin.uktrainsim.com/eng/eng.html

3 Goto the following and enter newroads.zip in the file name search,

http://www.trainsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH

4 Go back to the same search engine at Trainsim.com and enter xtracks.zip in the file name search.

That should about do it.

Paul :-)

ADDITIONALLY

You will need...

Goto:

http://www.trainsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH

.... enter in the "File name" dialog box:

tsunpack.zip

Follow it's instructions to correct the version of the same file name provided by MSTS.

Unzip this file and place the WAG file in the "pchopper" folder at:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\TRAINS\TRAINSET\pchopper
pchoppermt.zip
(1.08 KiB) Downloaded 194 times
This will give you two WAG files in the same folder, one for a loaded car, the other for an empty car (that I used for the activities).

I have a few questions.

I cannot open the apk files. Perhaps I'm missing a step.

Where do I unzip the rolling stock files to?

I don't see where the file is on this page I'm supposed to download: http://mstsbin.uktrainsim.com/eng/eng.html

I'm excited and want to play trains!

Hi Matt,

Sorry, hadn't noticed that the link didn't change when I went to the download page for BIN.

Use the same link, on the left you'll see a link for downloads, then at the bottom left of that page select 1.7something. Download, and unzip, follow their instructions.

Next... to install rolling stock...

Download and unzip the files into their own folders. Open the outer folder and you probably will find another folder inside, that's the one you want to place in the TRAINSET folder inside the Trains folder in the game, the path to that will be:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\TRAINS\TRAINSET

After you do this you'll need to double click on each apk file, it will install four or more files and will tell you it's installing each and you'll need to say OK. This will install path, service, traffic, and consist files into those folders of the same names.

Did you have any problem with xTracks and New Roads, they need to be installed before you open the route.

There are several 1.7 somethings on the MSTS bin site. Can you be more specific?

Hi Matt,

At the very bottom of the page there are three boxes, the one on the left says Stable Release, 1.7something, under that a "Download" button... that's the one. I haven't tried 1.8 on the DAR route as it has a bug that screws up my Springfield Terminal electric route.

Still more questions.

Where do I place the xtracks file?

I need a better explanation of what to do with the bin file. The "readme" file is poorly written in broken English.

I was not able to find this rolling stock file at train-sim.com: cp80371.zip

Hi All,

For some reason I was not able to reply to Matt's questions on the website and later just could get here at all, so I replied to him directly. Thought I would post my reply just in case someone else has been following the thread and was having the same problem(s).

Hi Matt,

Can't get the DAR DPI to work, can't reply to your message on the site.

Just need to double click on the blue and white computer icon in the folder and pretty much agree to the terms and follow it's direction, it knows where it wants to install to... same thing goes for the BIN installation.

cp80371.zip must be the car Steve posted in MSTS Files on the DAR group... can't even open the forum right now to check. I thought I'd removed this car from the Kentville yard just for this reason, guess I missed one.

Ok - So I admit it - I must be some kind of dumb!

I have done the following in this order:

1. downloaded DAR beta 2.7
2. downloaded /installed all of the rolling stock stipulated
3. installed the DAR_b2.7 beta (it is a new route with all files/folders in what appears to be the correct location)
4. installed the MSTS update (properties of the train.exe file are December 2001)
5. downloaded and installed V1.7 update
So far everything installed with no errors
In MSTS/Routes/DAR_b2.7/ACTIVITIES/ there are three .apk files. Any one of them that is opened results in an error that reads: "failed to open package"

Aparently, I have done something wrong or in the wrong sequence.

Any help?

Hi Herold,

When you say "opened" in reference to the apks are you trying to open them in notepad or something? All you need to do is double click and keep answering OK as they tell you what they are installing.

HI

When I refer to "open" I really mean doubleclick - as described in your writeup

I guess really its nort an "open" command rather a "run" command.
Anyway- when the .apk files are run, that's when I get the problem I described.

Hi Harold,

Are you double clicking on the apk in the download or the ones in the route in the game... should be the ones in the game.

Can you also have a look in your UTILS folder and make sure you have a application named tsunpack, should be 172 KB with a black and white icon.

Hi Paul

The .apk files are in the DAR_b2.7 route in the activities folder which of course is in the simulator (game)

c:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Train Sim/ROUTES/DAR_b2.7/ACTIVITIES/train 3-7.apk, .extra 6560 west apk and train24.apk
Yes - in the Utils folder, I have the tsunpack.exe file and it is exactly 172 kb

Hi Harold,

I had a look through the messages at trainsim and found a reply from Otto to someone with the same problem. Turns out there is a revised tsunpack.zip you should try.

Goto:

http://www.trainsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH

And enter:

tsunpack.zip

in the file name. This is a larger file then we have at 4115 KB. I probably should do the same but I rarely unpack other's apk files... draw too much to actually do any activities!

I had the same problem as Harold. I'll try the tsunpack. I'll be going away for the holidays tomorrow, so I might not get a chance to work on the sim until next week.
