Fun for your PC

Post by stem »

Just thought I'd put up a note on what I've done to my PC that others might enjoy.

There aren't many programs out there that make it easy to take a photo and crop it to either a percentage, ratio or fixed pixel size. As well as handling advanced resizing, straightening, image enhancement, intermedaite colour adjustment and last but not least, continuous print screen capturing, this program is an excellent cataloguing program and features alternative indexing using the gallery concept. I've used it for years now and recommend it highly. ThumbsPlus: http://www.cerious.com/

I also use quite a few of the utilties and programs available from Stardock (http://stardock.com) to modify and enhance my desktop. The base program is Windowblinds, which allows you you choose a variety of unique themes for your desktop. I particularly like the feature where I can select individual photos as my desktop background and have them change every hour! Guess how many DAR photos I have in that queue? ha ha! Windowblinds is a free download: http://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds/

I also like CursorFX to give me alternative 3D animated cursors. It is also free at it's basic level which is more than good enough for me: http://www.stardock.com/products/cursorfx/

I use IconX (http://www.stardock.com/products/iconx/) to jazz my desktop icons.

I also use ObjectDock (http://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/) to build my own pop-up and flyout desktop menus (they are the blue boxes top, left and right that disappear normally - I popped them out just to show you).

Of course this type of software isn't always for everyone, but I get asked often enough what I did with my desktop that I thought I'd share that with you guys today in case you were feeling like a few new PC toys.
