DAR engines off line

Post by Paul Charland »

Hi All,

I finally bought another slide scanner and came across there three shots that are DAR oriented.

First shot is DAR 999 with the tender lettered for CPR. This was taken at Delson PQ back in 1982 when the engine was still in fairly decent condition.

The next two shots are CPR 8134, one of the SW1200RSs that were assigned to the DAR. The shots were taken in Smiths Falls ON and the unit was on the way to be rebuilt to an SW1200RSu before being returned to the DAR.

Before that the unit was used on the Brockville way freight as CP was testing different power on the train. They were using an S-4 but it was a little under powered after Procter and Gamble went into normal production. Weeks later a new GP-38-2 was tested and proved to be too much engine, by summer they settled on an RS-23 that eventually went to the Windsor and Hantsport.

Maybe someone can put these in the wiki.

Done! They're on the DAR DPI. Nice front and rear views and you can't have too many shots of old No. 999. Thanks for sharing:
