Coach No. 27 "Iris"

Post by Dan Conlin »

Hey Steve, nice work in identifying the coach as No. 27 in that postcard of the Flying Bluenose at Hantsport: http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=I ... tsport.jpg. The number certainly looks to me to be 27 and the name on the oval looks to be "Iris" which was the name of 27.
I noticed that you changed your mind about identifying the detail photo of Yarmouth folks clowning around as No. 27:

What was your reasoning? It looks more like No. 27 to me than No. 2.
Roundhouse makes an affordable HO plastic passenger car that matches this car almost exactly.

Well Dan, the window width on car on the postcard and on the Flying Bluenose at the Kentville station didn't seem to be the same. but on looking at it again tonight, I think your second thoughts are correct. It is No. 27 and you can see that the oval board with "IRIS" on it has been removed at this point judging by the shadow on the body and the bolts holes. Additionally, I count 7 windows from the start of the word Atlantic to the front end of the body so it does match the other two photos of IRIS. My second thoughts were the windows looked a lot wider but it matches the wondow count and most certainly the style on the post card photo so you're right!

I've put it back into the No. 27 page. Thanks!

Do you think the baggage car is No. 46?

The baggage car sure looks like 46 but I am cautious about baggage cars because they are so similar. No. 46 had a twin No. 47, also built by Harris. And there were several other three window baggage cars like No. 54: http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=DAR000054 and its sister car 55.
Jim, do you have any thoughts?
