Identifying MOW equipment
I've gotten to scanning Ron's pics of MOW equipment and identifying the various pieces is a challenge! I've been using this as a starting point: http://www.customfinishingmodels.com/Maintenance.pdf

Hi Matt:
You were looking for clarification of the location of Ron's picture "Untitled-Scanned-23". I'm pretty sure that this was taken in Digby on the Shore Road which takes you past the Digby Pines Hotel, and then on to the present location of the Wharf. Just below the grade here, you come to a Stop sign where a left turn will take you up the hill to the golf course, or continuing straight will take you to the Wharf.

Hi Matt:
I've since found out that this spot is actually Victoria St in Digby. It becomes Shore Road at the Stop sign below the tracks seen here. This is about a half mile west of the Digby Station.

Re: Identifying MOW equipment
Would this be looking in a northerly direction towards the ferry terminal?
You seem to have a intimate knowledge of Digby, Jim. My family would shop there when I was a kid living in Weymouth. I haven't spent much time there since. Now, the Irving Big Stop is a pit-stop when going west! I'm much more familiar with Clare and Yarmouth, as my grandmother lives in Meteghan and my sister in Yarmouth.

Re: Identifying MOW equipment
Hi Matt:
Yes, this is looking towards the ferry terminal. Just beyond the crossing here, the road bends towards the right and there is a Stop sign and an intersection a few hundred yards beyond. At this point, Victoria St. becomes Shore Road which takes you to the current ferry terminal. The Pines Hotel is located just out of view on the far top right of this picture. The terminal is about five kms past the location of this picture.
My grandparents lived in Digby and I spent a lot of time there as a kid. The tracks ran their house, and I used to watch the trains go by from their dining room window. My grandfather worked at the old ferry terminal (located downtown where the scallop boats are now docked) as a ticket agent and he used to let me come down to the office to visit.
Anyway, I see that you've been busy posting more of Ron's pictures. Please keep up the good work, as I'm enjoying them.

Re: Identifying MOW equipment
Funny how we started our train watching, eh? I used to watch the VIA railiners from my sister's spare bedroom window in Saulnierville Station, glued to the window as the train went West. Then it was time for bed, and early the next morning, my wake up call:-)
I've come to the end of the photo album from Ron. So that's all for the time being. I have a few recent shots of my own to upload next.

Thank you Matt for uploading Ron's photos and please thank Ron for all us here too as we are certainly enjoying his many great photos of things most of us have never seen on the DAR rails.

Re: Identifying MOW equipment
I figured out the location of Ron's shot of the RDC beside the river: Image:Untitled-Scanned-20.jpg
It looked familar to me as there are only a few places where the highway and tracks are that close together beside such a dramatic bend in the river. Google Earth and streetview confirmed it as being Centrelea close to the old elastics plant. There is a baseball diamond beside the old roadbed now.
