Perhaps no one else noticed but very quietly sometime over the last 2 months, eBay has stopped listing the winning bidder's name.
While I understand the masking of current bidders on an item that's not yet sold, I'd like to know who it serves when the winner's identity is hidden.
I suppose I have been over the years a bit of an annoying twit with chasing down purchasers of D.A.R. items, but it has culiminated in this web site and many new internet friends I would have otherwise never met.
It also puts a complete crinkle in my invertory of the John A. MacIntosh photos and from now on I will not be able to credit the photos to anyone's collection unless they reveal that information to me.
I lament the change and again, wonder who it serves.

Re: A lament for D.A.R. items on eBay
Steve and list,
As you noted, there have been alot of changes at eBay lately, and not all for the better. Part of it is for 'security', part eBay greed and part the threat of coming government (IRS) involvement. The free wheeling, easy going days are over.
I understand your lament about not knowing how to contact the winning bidders of the MacIntosh photos, but Bob tells me the Canadian views are winding down, so I wouldn't agonize too much as they will probably be gone in the not too distant future.
Regarding being annoying, well, I for one am EXTREMELY grateful for all your efforts in putting this site together. Had you not taken it upon yourself to invest the vast amount of TIME to get this thing going, all of our stuff would still be sitting in boxes and drawers, lost or virtually unknown. That certainly would have been the case for my stuff.
And while I'm handing out kudos, thanks again to everyone who takes the time to ask or answer questions and post info and pictures. It's a lot of FUN learning and sharing with you folks. Thanks again.
