I'd enjoy hearing what people's favourite DAR locomotive is. My personal fav is No. 32. I like its elaborate paint scheme and long service. It sticks out from all the other DAR ex CPR 4-6-0s as it was directly ordered for the DAR and was their last "independent" locomotive.

Re: Favourite DAR Locomotive?
That's a tough one Dan. For people who have children, its like asking which one is your favorite.
Anything that ran on the DAR is special to me. Steam was gone long before I was born, so I could only picture it in my mind's eye. I always liked 999, because it is a survivor. However, I think the Pacifics look better.
When it comes to diesels, the SW1200RS class was here for so long, it really is the DAR diesel standard. I had the privilege of seeing them operate, and I am fond of them. The S3s were really neat, especially being lettered for the DAR. But I like the RS18s too!
I'm not sure if RDCs fit the bill, but having grown up in the 80's, they first captured my attention, and I've been in love with them ever since. I don't have a favorite number, but any of the DAR/CP/Via Budd cars fit the bill.
Good question. It made me think!

My daughter says 999. She says for some reason she heard it was lucky. Mine is the number 1 Midland train because we found a photo of it and it represents the start of the railway line through our area This number changed after it was part of the DAR number 31 I believe

No. 999 is a great choice - lucky number and a good looking locomotive with semi streamlined "skirting" along the running board.

Hmmm, just lucky the 999 never rolled over I guess!
Think I took shots of the 999 at Delson back in the early '80s when our local model railway club took a day trip.

Re: Favourite DAR Locomotive?
I love Americans, and Pacifics but would have to say that I'm more enamored of a good Baldwin or Angus 10 wheeler. My favourite would be Glooscap, No. 33!!
I especially love the photo that Jim Taylor supplied of here in front of the Wolfville station around 1910:

As for DAR No. 31, yes she did used to be MRC No. 1:
