The first SW1200s were 10 locomotives #8131-8140, built in April 1959, and delivered to the DAR at that time.

I started creating these for the MS train Sim I'm working on, have the frame down so far.

Anyone have an early '70s shot of 8140 or know what paint scheme it would have been in at that time, can only find late '70s shot of it in Action Red.

I looked thought anything else I might have had for photos on 8140 but all I have a action red 8140s. All from the late 70's.

According to the photos we have seen so far, the Action Red paint jobs started surfacing in 1972 (unknown unit with 8136) and the last Tuscan unit seen so far was in 1974 (8137).

November's edition of Canadian Railway Observations mentioned 8138 was on its way to a scrapper in Winnipeg. A moment of silence for the dearly departed.

CP SW1200 #8131 (the first SW1200 on the DAR) appeared here in Winnipeg around mid October of this year. I got some great shots of it sitting in CN's Symington Yard before it got transferred to a siding just off Chevrier Blvd. on the South end of town (just minutes away from where I live!). I'd like to get up close to it sometime to get even better shots, but I don't know what's going on along that spur (construction) and don't want to get caught for trespassing... This siding is most likely where 8131 will meet its fate like the other CP SD40-2s and GP9s scrapped there last summer.

I'll try to post some photos here when I get a chance.

Hi All,

If you look at the shots or 8137 in the wiki you'll see it was still in maroon and grey as of July 6 1976. Another shot taken on August 17 1977 shows the unit in fresh Action Red.

Here is a shot of 8140 for Paul. http://www.slidetrader.com/listings/det ... =629649728

I wonder if it was still assigned to the DAR and cycled offline to Montreal, or reassigned when this pic was taken.

Hi Matt and All,

I don't think there were any more the eight SW on the DAR at any one time, think the "other" two were probably in Montreal getting overhauled and while waiting to be cycled back to the DAR worked the Montreal area.

Back in the early '80s (1982 if I recall... have to find the slides) while returning home from Railfair in Ottawa I found and photographed 8135 at the Smiths Falls roundhouse. The unit was being tested on the Brockville way freight the next week. Proctor and Gamble opened a large plant here and the S-3s usually assigned to the run were a bit too light for the added traffic. CP tested various units including the DAR SW and eventually settled on an RS-18 (and later 18u)... so, guess this one was in Montreal for servicing before the test.
