1893 Nova Scotia Chapter 102 - An Act to amend Chapter 107 of the Acts of 1892, relating to the Cornwallis Valley Railway Company, Limited

An Act was approved by the Nova Scotia legislature on February 1st 1893 to remove several deadlines to complete the full route of the Cornwallis Valley Railway. The act also removed a requirement that the railway connect with the Nova Scotia Central Railway. Chapter 102.

An Act to amend Chapter 107 of the Acts of 1892, relating to the Cornwallis Valley Railway Company, Limited.

(Passed the 1st day of February, A. D. 1893.)

Summary of the Act:

Section 1 - Apparently the incorporation of the Cornwallis Valley Railway required the company to:

  • begin construction within three years of the passing of the incorporating act.
  • spend at least ten percent of the capital of the Cornwallis Valley Railway Company within three years of the incorporation.
  • complete and put into operation the railway within nine years of the incorporation.
  • several other requirements mentioned by reference.

The acquisition of the Cornwallis Valley Railway by the Windsor and Annapolis Railway Company, limited was to be allowed to go forward notwithstanding the failure of the Cornwallis Valley company to meet any of its deadlines, and the Windsor and Annapolis company was not to suffer loss of the original franchise rights.

Section 2 - removed any requirement for the Windsor and Annapolis to constuct a railway from Centreville west to connect with the Nova Scotia Central Railway.

Section 3 - was a technical section dealing with backdating the amendments made.
