Various activities of the Dominion Atlantic Railway Company required approvals from government. This page shows approvals received in 1897.
In 1897, the DAR requested permission to extend the already existing railway siding on the Digby government wharf. The approval was granted in a Federal Order in Council number 1354 of the year 1897. (Orders in Council are numbered beginning from number 1 each calendar year.)
Below is the text of the report to the Governor General for his approval.

On a Report dated 19th May 1897, from the Minister of Public Works, stating that on the 13th March, 1895, an Order-in-Council was passed authorizing the Dominion Atlantic Railway Company to extend their railway track on the Government wharf at Digby, provided the Company would not be allowed to lay more than one track on the wharf; that the said track would not extend on the pier more than 440 feet from the shore-line, and also that the Company would submit before proceeding with their work a sketch showing the manner in which they propose to lay their rails.
The Minister further states that the

Company have again applied for permission to lay their tracks a further distance of 205 feet on the Digby wharf, that is to say, to the end of the solid crib work portion of the pier, and the Chief Engineer of the Department of Public Works reports that the permission in question can be granted on condition that the Company will lay plank to the full height and that between and outside of the rails in the same manner as they have done on the portion of the track already laid.
The Minister recommends that authority be given on the condition recommended by the Chief Engineer of the Department of Public Works.
The Committee submit the above recommendation for your Excellency's approval.
