NARRATIVE: This object was found in the spring of 2005 by the firm of Neill & Gunter Ltd., a Design & Consulting Engineer Co. working for the town of Kentville to clean up the former Dominion Atlantic Railway (Canadian Pacific) lands located at the western end of the Town of Kentville. It is part of a large collection of artifacts unearthed near the railway roundhouse and was donated to the museum in the fall of 2005.
DESCRIPTION: High, bee hive, domed cover, base decorated with drip points, internal threads, two ridges and one groove on main body.
HISTORY OF USE: Original owner is Dominion Atlantic Railway (1894 to 1911). Canadian Pacific Railway was the owner after 1911. Passenger service continued on at least some parts of the line from Halifax to Yarmouth until in the 1970's.

Glass insulators were introduced in the 1850's for telegraph lines and later for power lines and other uses as the technology evolved.
