These are unique to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. We called the wagon a sloven; used widely in their day as a general purpose freight carrier. Remember seeing one as late as the mid-1950's at the old Woodstock (NB) Woodworking plant,drawn by a pair of horses. We have a fine preserved Sloven at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. They were ideal for shifting heavy freight and used clever ways to maximize the bed surface but still permit a good turning radius for the steerable front axles.
